Plasma electron acceleration in a non-resonant microwave heating scheme below the electron cyclotron frequency

چکیده
Abstract Microwave heating of over-dense plasmas is routinely achieved in the stellarator TJ-K. In contrast to usually applied scenarios tokamaks or stellarators, an operational regime described where occurs well below electron cyclotron frequency but still above lower hybrid frequency. energy deposited at so-called O-resonance, accompanied by a small population high-energy electrons with up 100 keV. These are responsible for significant toroidal net current and occurrence hard x-rays. Requirements achieving this together novel scheme plasma-electron acceleration.

Electron cyclotron heating of a highly-ionized plasma in mirror geomctry is investigated. Of primary interest is the experimental diagnosis of the elcctron energy distribution and the comparison of the results of this diagnosis with a two dimensional, time-dependent Fokkcr-Planck simulation. 'Tliese two goals are accomplished in four steps. (1) First, the power balance of the heated and unheate...
متن کاملPlasma Wave Acceleration of Electron in Bubble Regime in Presence of a Planar Wiggler
The plasma wave acceleration of electron in the bubble regime is investigated in a new configuration containing a planar wiggler. The space-charge field of the laser-created ion channel can focuse and stabilize the electron trajectory to guide it toward the acceleration region. The high-gradient plasma wave field can resonantly accelerate the trapped electron to higher energies in the presence ...
متن کاملResonant Particle Heating of an Electron Plasma by Oscillating Sheaths
The first unambiguous measurements of a bounce-resonance effect in a non-neutral plasma are presented. Two striking signatures are observed when a magnetized electron column is heated by oscillating an end sheath. First, the heating rate increases by a factor of 104 as the oscillation frequency is increased by a factor of 10 near the thermal electron bounce frequency. Second, the heating is enh...
متن کاملTokamak start-up with electron-cyclotron heating
Experiments are described in which the start-up voltage in a tokamak is reduced by about a factor of two by the use of a modest amount of electron cyclotron resonance heating power for pre-ionization. The solution of the zero-dimensional start-up equations indicates that the effect is due to the high initial density which increases the rate at which the conductivity increases in the neutral-dom...
متن کاملBernstein rays in a Tokamak plasma in the electron - cyclotron heating conditions
TECHNOLOGICAL advances in the construction of high-frequency tubes (gyrotrons) (ALIKAEV et al., 1978; .TORY, 1978) have produced a sustained interest in the possibility of using microwave energy in the electron-cyciotron frequency range (ECF) o = ace, as a promising additional heating scheme for Tokamak plasmas. Nearly all proposed experiments, which will become operative in the next two years ...
